ABOUT

Leading myself. Supporting others. Leading the mission. Building the team.

My career has run in four stages. Each one built on the last.

STAGE 1

Leading myself

I competed in pole vault for Wales and Great Britain for fifteen years, finishing fifth at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and 2014. I still hold the Welsh indoor record. Alongside it I earned a First Class MEng in Aeronautical Engineering and a PhD in Sports Technology at Loughborough. Sport taught me the foundations of performance: sleep, training, recovery and nutrition, and the discipline to get them right every day.

STAGE 2

Supporting others

In Formula 1, at Williams and then Haas, my job was to help pit crews perform: faster, more consistently, and with fewer injuries. It taught me how much the environment and the role shape what people can do. With long hours and constant travel, the biggest performance gain would have been more time off, but that wasn’t my call to make.

STAGE 3

Leading the mission

In Abu Dhabi I led three first-of-their-kind missions in just over two years: a 62 km swim around the island, a 400 km row along the coast, and a 1,000 km walk across the emirate as part of the Active Abu Dhabi campaign. Each one was bigger and more demanding than the last, and each one put leadership lessons into practice in front of a national audience.

STAGE 4

Building the team

As Coaching Director at Snö Performance (formerly Hintsa Performance Middle East), I built and led the coaching team through an acquisition and rebrand, recruiting coaches and designing how they were developed and reviewed.

Quantified Athlete

Quantified Athlete is the practice I set up in 2018 to bring all of this together: sport methodology and an engineering mindset, applied to people and projects under pressure.
